Jurgen Klopp has admitted he’s not sure if Philippe Coutinho will remain at Liverpool beyond the January transfer window.
The Brazilian playmaker continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona. The Spanish club made serious efforts to prise the playmaker from Anfield during the summer, but saw numerous big-money bids rejected by Liverpool. With Coutinho keen on moving to the Nou Camp, Barcelona are expected to return in January with a fresh offer for Liverpool to consider.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Champions League meeting with Spartak Moscow, Klopp admitted it was impossible to predict what would happen when the winter transfer window opens. ‘Nothing… but I don’t think about it. Not one second that I thought about that,’ said the German coach. ‘I am not unsure. I am not sure. Nobody knows what will happen in January. It’s nice from an outside view. Nothing to say about that.’
Klopp’s failure to give assurances that Coutinho will remain a Liverpool player is sure to give Barcelona optimism a deal can be agreed.
